Marginalised communities across Madhya Pradesh face linked barriers: little access to mental health support, the stigma around asking for help, gender-based violence, and the insecurity of migrant livelihoods. Jan Sahas Social Empowerment Society (JSSES), set up in 2006, works where these challenges meet. It supports underserved communities through mental health services, women's livelihoods, and migrant resilience programs.
Studio 1947 worked with JSSES to design and build a new website that turns nearly two decades of grassroots work into a clear, trustworthy online presence. One that serves survivors, rural women, migrant workers, donors, and government partners alike.
The Context & The Social Gap
JSSES works towards a society that is socially, economically, and educationally empowered, where everyone enjoys equal rights and opportunities. Its programs span mental health support, women's livelihood work like the Usha Silai School Program, and the Migrant Resilience Collaborative Program, which supports safe and dignified migration.
An NGO's website is often the first point of contact for survivors seeking help, donors weighing a cause, and government partners checking credibility. JSSES needed a site that could do three things at once:

Community-Led Programs, Clearly Told
Program StructureThe site is built around JSSES's core programs. Each one is presented with its approach, services, and measurable outcomes, so visitors quickly understand how the organisation works on the ground:
Community Mental Health Support
A mental health model with many partners: counselling centres across several districts, run by psychologists, social workers, and trained barefoot counsellors, plus frontline training and community awareness.
Usha Silai School Program
A nationwide nine-day module that teaches women sewing, machine repair, and life skills, so they can run their own small businesses, and link 2,000 women to employment.
Migrant Resilience Collaborative
Social security access, worker protection, and safe mobility support for migrant workers, from the Resilience Connect app and a toll-free helpline to legal aid and government scheme registration.
One achievement stands out in the site's story. JSSES has built strong working relationships with the Women's Police and Juvenile Police, who now refer cases that need mental health counselling, fact-finding in sensitive situations, and legal support. The website gives this collaboration, and the trust behind it, the visibility it deserves.
Build & Interface Design
Build & TechnologyTo make the site fast, reliable, and easy to maintain, Studio 1947 built it as a modern Next.js app with a component-based interface. It is made for quick page loads on rural mobile connections, clear navigation, and simple content updates by the JSSES team.
The design leans on a deep midnight indigo drawn from the organisation's own identity, paired with generous white space and easy-to-read type. The site feels calm, credible, and human, never clinical.

A board-members section profiles the leadership (legal professionals, survivor leaders, and community advocates), building trust at a glance.
Resources, Reports & Media Hub
Annual reports (FY 2023 to 24 and 2024 to 25), mental health resources, event coverage, and photo galleries, so donors, journalists, and partners can check and share the organisation's ongoing work.
Clear Pathways to Get Involved
Simple, separate routes for donating through a secure online payment gateway, volunteering, or applying for open roles, each with its own call-to-action.
