Where It Started
The first cohort hired nine fellows from the hills around us: no design portfolio required, no computer-science degree, just a willingness to learn. Three of them stayed on with Studio 1947 in full job roles once the fellowship ended, the clearest sign the model was working. It has grown since, but the idea hasn't changed: give local talent real exposure and a real stipend, not an unpaid internship dressed up as an opportunity.
How It Works
Reach out to us. No portfolio or degree required, just a willingness to learn and show up.
Work alongside the studio on real client projects across data, design, technology and communication, with mentorship and a stipend along the way.
Some fellows move into full job roles at Studio 1947, like three from our first cohort did. Others take what they built with them to their next opportunity.
What Fellows Get
Hands-on time with the research and analysis that sits behind real client work, not textbook exercises.
Working alongside the studio's designers on live briefs, from concept to finished asset.
Exposure to the tools and build processes that turn a design into something that actually ships.
Learning how a studio talks to clients and communities, and how a project gets explained clearly to both.
Rooted in Local Wisdom
The fellowship exists to give people from the hills a way in, paid, mentored, and pointed at real work. If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
